NDT ENGINEER (ASNT-LEVEL II)
An NDT Level II
individual should set up and calibrate, monitor
the NDT equipment, interpret and evaluate the
results with respect to applicable codes,
standards and specifications.
A Level II has to be thoroughly familiar with
the scope and limitations of the methods for
which qualified and certified. Exercise training
and guidance of trainees and level 1 personnel's
and prepare written instruction, organise and
report the results of NDT performed.
An ASNT Level II is also responsible to lead a
team of Draughtsman and or technician and carry
out the gauging survey or flaw detection or any
NDT performed as per the requirements of the
classification society. Co-ordinating with the
team and also with clients representative and
attending class surveyor.
The NDT Level II generally performs his duties
as above but under given circumstances is
expected to be aware of the Ships or Rig
structures and related terminologies and
understand them. Since the NDT of Ships and Rigs
are performed by a team consisting of three
performers of which one is Draughtsman who
regularly under take the drawing of the Ship or
Rig Structures and a technician who helps to
prepare the surface for the required NDT and
thirdly the NDT engineer. It is very important
that at least one personnel of this team to be
thoroughly familiar with Ship and Rig Structures
so that the NDT team does not face any kind of
difficulty while doing the NDT survey as per the
requirements of the classification society.
